Lori Korsmo Studio
Practice
Informed by mathematics, lace, tiles and Turkish carpets, Lori Korsmo's drawings may be described as the architect and author Christopher Alexander characterized his Linz Cafe. Alexander said his work attempted to make "pictures of the universe." Like Alexander, Korsmo creates "something in which we see a whole world," a place where we can feel "happiness" as well as a "vision of an ordinary person at home with a cup of tea." Working within her carefully planned designs, Korsmo makes thousands of small pencil or ink marks on paper to produce drawings of compelling beauty, unending motion and serenity.

Biography
After graduate school at Yale, Korsmo taught in the midwest. She had a solo show at the 1708 Gallery, Richmond, VA and her work was exhibited the Amos Eno Gallery, New York, NY; Artemisia Gallery, Chicago, IL; Atlantic Center for the Arts, New Smyrna Beach, FL; Bellevue Art Museum, Bellevue, WA; DCAC, Washington, DC; Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA and several university venues. In 1993, Korsmo moved back to her hometown of Tacoma, WA and began working in Information Technology. For twenty years she has been writing code by day - and drawing whenever possible. Since she returned to Tacoma, Korsmo has not sought shows, grants or residencies. This website and the upcoming exhibition have been organized by those who admire her work and believe it deserves an audience.
